Pre-Season Games?

Football Season is underway, training camps are wrapping up and teams are getting ready for the start of the new season. As much as I love football, Having to sit there and watch four boring pre-season games defuses the buzz surrounding the start of football season. NFL Commisioner Roger Godell and league officials are proposing; expanding the regular season from sixteen games to eighteen. This would mean that instead of four pre-season games there would be two. Most NFL fans and league officials are in favor of this change, however many players are against it. Personally I think that it could work if teams were allowed to keep more than fifty three players on the roster, so as to have more subs to help keep players from breaking down during the longer regular season. Also increase the contracts so that they would be making more money, these two changes would make the NFL season better for the fans, and make the players happy at the same time. I can speak for most people when I say I'd rather see more regular season games. Honestly who likes the pre-season anyways, but hey I'm just sayin.

  1. I really think from a player's perspective it's too many games. By the end of the season, those guys are like hamburger. I think with 18 games you'd see more playoff injuries, and thereby a weaker playoff. I'm not totally sure though. The expanded roster might be a good idea. Or maybe just eliminate the bye week. And without the preseason, when would we ever see the Jordan Palmers and the Michael Bishops of the NFL?

  2. I don't personally watch football, but I know some hardcore fans who I know would appreciate more regular season games instead of the pre-season games that nobody really cares about. I'm on your side.

  3. I know Pre-Season games don't matter, but if you fool yourself into thinking they matter (like I do, watching them in a bar with drunk friends helps), you feel pretty accomplished.

  4. Pre-season games definitely get me thinking towards the fall and "real" football. I don't necessarily really watch all of them, but I like knowing that they're on...though I don't think I'd say no to some more regular season games!

  5. I think if they do make this change, it will be interesting how it affects not just the players collective healths, but outside factors as well. Like will Vegas odds change due to a longer season? Will records set in a new 18 game season not count? Will fantasy football stratagies have to be altered?

Youd also have to consider this to be an advantage for teams that play home games in cold weather places towards the end of the season. Teams used to the snow and cold a later season would bring always have a distinct advantage over the domed arena and warm weather teams. Id just be happy to see more football and more games in the snow!
